Madison, Wis. – Today, the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) Board of Education announced their endorsement of the Strong Schools, Strong Community campaign in support of the operations and facilities referenda they unanimously approved that will appear on the November 5, 2024 ballot.

“The board has come together to ask our neighbors to make an investment in the future of our public schools that will meet the needs of our students, staff, educators, and community.”

  • Nichelle Nichols, Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education, President

“The operations referendum will allow us to hire and invest in more world class educators to make our classrooms smaller and add 4K staff to provide a more personalized education experience for the next generation of leaders.”

  • Maia Pearson, Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education, Vice President

“Most of our buildings are over 60 years old and unfit to serve our diverse student population. New learning environments, made possible through the facilities referendum, will create fully equipped spaces for our students and staff to succeed.”

  • Laura Simkin, Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education, Clerk

“As Treasurer of the Madison Board of Education, I know voting yes for the MMSD operations and facilities referenda positions our school district to invest in educators and young people strategically. Voting yes will create thousands of jobs locally, while ensuring the integrity of our educational opportunities for generations of young learners to come. Please join me in voting yes for public education this November 5, 2024.“

  • Ali Janae Muldrow, Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education, Treasurer

“Students, educators, and staff deserve accessible and modern buildings to accommodate the needs of a diverse population. The facilities referenda will allow us to make this possible.”

  • Nicki Vander Meulen, Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education, Member

“The MMSD referenda questions will help us shrink opportunity gaps by building on the success of Community Schools and the all-day 4K program through expanded offerings for our diverse population in four modernized elementary schools. Voting yes in November supports the future of our young people”

  • Savion Castro, Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education, Member

“Making lasting investments into our students, teachers, and staff is necessary to allow our public schools to keep pace with our fast growing city. These referenda aren’t maintaining the status quo, they’ll make new opportunities possible. By coming together as a community, we can successfully support the young people of our City.”

  • Blair Mosner Feltham, Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education, Member

Schools are the heart of our Madison community, and with our city expected to grow by nearly 200,000 residents over the next 25 years, we need to be ready to deliver exceptional spaces and experiences to these future community members.

These referenda will attract and retain world class educators, increase access to behavioral and mental health services, and deliver critical safety improvements to Shabazz High as well as elementary and middle schools throughout the district.
