Harris Campaign: Local Wisconsinites highlight Vice President Harris’ fight for Wisconsin and slam Trump’s Project 2025 agenda

Today, local leaders and community members in Wausau and Green Bay came together to support Kamala Harris for President, highlighting the stark contrast between her positive vision for the future and Trump’s draconian Project 2025 agenda. This comes on the heels of Vice President Harris’ first rally as the Democratic nominee for President in the Milwaukee area, which drew more than 3,500 enthusiastic supporters.

Speakers highlighted the Vice President’s fight to protect reproductive freedom, strengthen our democracy, and ensure that every Wisconsinite has the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead. Meanwhile, Donald Trump and JD Vance want to drag Wisconsin back into the past with their extreme Project 2025 agenda that would threaten Americans’ rights and freedoms, hurt the middle class and raise costs for Wisconsin families.

“Vice President Harris believes in the sacred freedom to vote. She believes in the freedom to live safe from gun violence. She believes in a country where reproductive freedoms are protected and Roe v. Wade is the law of the land once again,” said State Assembly Candidate Amaad Rivera-Wagner. “Let’s be clear: Kamala Harris represents the next generation of the Democratic Party. She is the best qualified and best prepared person to take on Donald Trump this November and win.”

“Here in Wisconsin, we know the stakes because we are on the front lines of this fight. After Trump’s Supreme Court appointees overturned Roe v. Wade, an extreme abortion ban from 1849 was revived in our state. For over a year, women were denied care, clinics shut down, and doctors feared retaliation,” said State Assembly Candidate and Brown County Democratic Party Chair Christy Welch. “We will not be silent while Trump and his VP pick continue to attack women’s freedoms. We will not stand by while male politicians try to control women’s bodies and choices. We will stand up and cast our vote for Vice President Kamala Harris this November and show the world that when women fight, we win.”

“In Vice President Harris, we have a leader who is a fighter for access to paid family leave and affordable childcare, for an America where every person can buy a home and start a family, and where no child has to grow up in poverty,” said State Assembly Candidate Yee Leng Xiong. “She is a champion for working families like mine, and she knows that when our middle class is strong, America is strong.”

“As we look ahead, the choice in front of us is stark. We cannot afford to be complacent – we will not be silent while Trump and his VP pick continue to attack women’s freedoms,” said Nancy Stencil, a community activist in central and northern Wisconsin. “It is clear – by rallying behind Vice President Kamala Harris, we stand together, for every woman, every family, and every community that deserves the right to make their own choices and receive the care they need.”

“I am one of the more than 266,000 Wisconsinites who relies on the Affordable Care Act to survive. I know what a world without the ACA looks like because I lived in it,” said Sarah Conklin, a health care advocate in Green Bay. “Vice President Harris has worked alongside President Biden to fight for the ACA. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has repeatedly promised to rip away the health care that so many Wisconsinites with stories like mine rely on… I am speaking to you all here today because we cannot afford another Trump presidency. When I read his Project 2025 agenda, I was terrified for not only my own future, but also for the future of our state.”
