Wauwatosa East, West high schools named to Advanced Placement school honor roll – WisPolitics
Wauwatosa, WI — The College Board has named both Wauwatosa East and Wauwatosa West High Schools to the 2023-24 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll.
Both Wauwatosa East and Wauwatosa West earned Silver-level recognition. The AP School Honor Roll awards Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels to schools based on their performance.
“This honor reflects the Wauwatosa School District’s ongoing commitment to providing rigorous academic opportunities for all students,” said Dr. Demond Means, WSD Superintendent. “Being recognized once again for both Wauwatosa East and West underscores our dedication to expanding access to AP coursework and supporting our students’ success in college-level studies.”
The AP School Honor Roll evaluates schools based on three metrics: College Culture, College Credit, and College Optimization. To earn the Silver designation, 63% of Wauwatosa East’s graduating class took at least one AP exam during high school (College Culture), 52% scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam (College Credit), and 31% took five or more AP exams, with at least one exam taken in ninth or 10th grade (College Optimization).
Meanwhile, Wauwatosa West High School had 382 students complete 743 Advanced Placement exams in the spring of 2024, the highest numbers in the school’s five-year history. A total of 281 students earned a score of 3 or higher on their exams, also a record high.
Recognizing schools that deliver strong results while expanding access to AP courses, the AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
The AP program empowers academically prepared students to engage in college-level studies during their high school years. These courses, complemented by corresponding AP exams administered annually, offer students a unique opportunity to pursue advanced learning.
