With mature skin, there are a few things we need to do differently to ensure our makeup looks fabulous. When you’re in your 20s, you can pretty much put dirt on your skin and it will still look great! When you are in your 40s & 50s, it takes a little more prep work to get your makeup to look flawless but it 100% can be done.
Today, I’m excited to share my absolute favorite complexion perfectors for dry and mature skin, along with my best tips and tricks for using them. Together, we’ll achieve that beautiful dewy, glowing, and hydrated look that makes us all feel fantastic!
THE BEST COMPLEXION PERFECTORS FOR DRY & MATURE SKIN
PREP YOUR SKIN FIRST
With dry and mature skin, prepping your skin is the absolute KEY to getting your makeup to look its best. It is the most important thing you can do, and you will see a huge difference if you have never done this before. The three essential elements are exfoliating your skin to get any dead skin off your face, and if you have vellus hair, I recommend dermaplaning your face, which kills two birds with one stone. You will exfoliate your skin while removing baby hairs, making your foundation look amazing.

MERIT GREAT SKIN MOISTURIZER
This is my current favorite way to moisturize and prep my skin for makeup. It is lightweight and sinks right into my skin, hydrating and plumping. My skin feels so soft when I use it. It is also fragrance-free, which is perfect for my sensitive skin.

CRYO-FLASH CREAM MASK
This stuff is pure magic before and after a big night out. It feels like dipping your face into an ice bath. Before makeup, it plumps, lifts, and hydrates your skin for a glass-like finish. The morning after, its cooling and de-puffing properties are unmatched. This has quickly become a holy grail product for me.

VITAMIN ENRICHED FACE BASE
Another great option for hydrating and prepping mature skin over 40 for makeup is this rich cream rather than a lotion, perfect for cold weather months. My one gripe is that it has fragrance, but my skin tolerates it just fine. It has lots of 5-star reviews, and I used this on every single client of mine with mature skin.

MERIT GREAT SKIN SERUM
One of my favorite hydrating serums for under makeup. It gives a glass-like effect and is the perfect primer for mature and dry skin. It is a great, affordable serum and I use it daily. Make sure to shake the bottle first and I use 3 pumps right before makeup application.

SKIN CONCEALER STICK
This is a favorite for travel. It is in a convenient stick form and works equally well on blemishes and under the eyes. It is a creamy, easy-to-work-with formula that blends well and looks like skin. It is a must-have on any airplane ride and in my purse for quick touch-ups when my rosacea shows through.

HOURGLASS CONCEALER
The MVP concealer for us over 40 ladies with mature skin. It has a thinner, consistency, which makes it easier to work with. Once it sets, it doesn’t crease or move, so there is absolutely no need to set it with powder, which can be tricky for mature under eyes. Just apply, pat in, and forget about it. It comes in 22 shades.

NARS SOFT MATTE CONCEALER
NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer is a high-coverage matte concealer with a blurring, soft-focus effect with all-day wear. Another great option if you only want one concealer for blemishes and under the eyes. Although this is a full-coverage concealer its, whipped texture makes it very easy to work with and it blends out like a dream.

IT COSMETICS GLOWY CC CREAM
One of my holy grail foundations, I get compliments on my skin every time I wear this stuff! It makes my skin look flawless, healthy, and glowing and covers my rosacea completely. What more can a mature gal over 40 ask for? My favorite way to apply is to buff out my hand and then dot on with a brush to the areas I need it. A little bit goes a long way and a small amount is usually enough for my entire face.

TEINT IDOLE GLOW FOUNDATION
My favorite foundation for going out and special events. This is a sheer fluid that covers like a champ and stays put for up to 24 hours. It leaves my skin looking glowy and flawless, covering all of my imperfections while still looking natural. It is phenomenal for mature skin.

TRANSLUCENT FINISHING POWDER
I have used this powder for over a decade and it is still the BEST in my opinion. If you don’t like this powder, you are using too much of it, I guarantee it! The key to this is a very little bit just through your t zone to blur your pores and make your makeup last all day long!

DEWY SETTING SPRAY
This is my other secret weapon for dewy-looking skin and makeup that will last all day and night. This gives an amazing finish and meshes everything together in the best way. The key to this is to be very generous and saturate your face then let it dry and your makeup will stay on until you take it off!
