Slash funding for law enforcement – WisPolitics

MADISON, Wis. — In the final weeks of the election, WisDems will be highlighting Eric Hovde’s extreme agenda for Wisconsin, and how his policies would be disastrous for Wisconsinites. The seventh edition will look at Hovde’s plan to cut funding for law enforcement.

California bank owner Eric Hovde’s budget plan would slash funding for local law enforcement, police officers, and border security officials. Hovde’s plan puts the safety of local Wisconsin communities at risk in order to spend $4 trillion on a tax break for the ultra-wealthy.

The Hovde Plan to gut law enforcement funding:

  • Hovde would slash funding for a public safety program that helps hire and retain police officers in our communities.
  • Hovde would gut the largest grant program for local law enforcement, crime prevention, and drug treatment and enforcement programs by more than 50%.
  • Hovde would cut funding for programs supporting victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault funded by the Violence Against Women Act by 30%.
  • Hovde opposed the bipartisan border deal that would’ve strengthened drug screening technology and the number of customs and border protection officers at the border. The bill was supported by the Border Patrol Union, but Hovde called it a “crazy ass” and “rotten” bill.
