Rep. Sortwell, Sen. Jacque: Evers tells town to not contact their local state Representative and Senator during events
Madison – Representative Shae Sortwell (R-Gibson) and Senator André Jacque (R-De Pere) released the following statement in response to the governor’s office withholding information regarding local events:
“Governor Evers and his administration have a track record of withholding information from the public, denying access to records from his office. Continuing his poor communication practices, his staff informed Senator Jacque and my offices just an hour before the beginning of a local event he was leading in our districts to promote a program written by the legislature,” said Rep. Sortwell.
The 2nd Assembly District Office contacted the Town of Morrison to understand how far in advance the governor’s office reached out to set up the event. The town received communication from Evers’ staff last Wednesday and was told in an email to not contact local state elected officials about the event.
“It is pathetic, but sadly not surprising, that this is only one of many times where I have been informed by local leaders that they were specifically ordered by Governor Evers’ staff not to invite me or my legislative colleagues to a public media event for their organization or community,” said Senator Jacque. “While I often find out in advance anyway from furious involved citizens or the media inquiries about how the Governor is scheduled to take credit for something I or the legislature initiated, Wisconsin deserves better than such repeated childish antics from this administration.”
Governor Evers has a history of his questionable ethics being caught. Back in 2020, the governor’s office secretly recorded Republican legislative leadership during a meeting on how to handle the coronavirus. His office has now hit a new low today by gaslighting elected officials.
“This is par for the course with this governor, pretending to actually cooperate and work together. Multiple times over the last six years, he has purposely attempted to exclude Republican legislators from events in their districts. For years, he has given last minute notice of his schedule in an attempt to prevent our attendance,” said Rep. Sortwell. ‘“Now we have evidence that he actually tells people not to inform their legislators of these events for “security reasons.” I guess my top secret security clearance from the army is not enough for him.”
