Presents Health Care Hero Awards in Racine – WisPolitics
Racine, WI (September 4, 2024) – Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) yesterday presented Rachel Cortez, Ascension’s Wisconsin Sexual Assault Treatment Center Coordinator and Dr. David Galbis-Reig, Medical Director of Addiction Services with Wisconsin’s First Congressional District’s 2024 Health Care Hero Awards.
Health Care Hero Rachel Cortez
A Health Care Hero Award was presented to Rachel Cortez, Ascension’s Wisconsin Sexual Assault Treatment Center Coordinator. Additionally, Rachel leads Ascension’s 24/7 Mobile Sexual Assault Treatment Center – a unit of specialty forensic nurses that treat assault patients throughout southeastern Wisconsin. On top of that, she serves as an instructor to hundreds throughout the state on how to treat abuse victims and how to recognize signs of human trafficking. Rachel’s colleagues describe her as a powerful advocate for trauma-informed care who empowers patients who have experienced sexual assault and domestic violence.
Health Care Hero Dr. David Galbis-Reig
A Health Care Hero Award was also presented to Dr. David Galbis-Reig, Medical Director of Addiction Services at Ascension All Saints Hospital in Racine. His role at Ascension is only one of the many ways he is working to provide treatment to patients suffering from the mental health and addiction crisis. Dr. Galbis-Reig additionally serves as Medical Director of Addiction Services for Racine County Behavioral Health Services and on the Wisconsin Medical Society Board. His colleagues say his compassionate care and unwavering commitment to his patients who struggle with addiction has transformed the lives of countless individuals in the community.
NOTE: Recipients of these awards were nominated by local Wisconsin citizens and selected by Wisconsin’s First Congressional District’s Health Care Advisory Board. The Health Care Advisory Board is comprised of health care professionals across Southeast Wisconsin.
