Political commentator Charlie Sykes and other Republicans host press call on Harris-Walz endorsement – WisPolitics
These endorsements follow former Congresswoman and fellow Republican Liz Cheney’s endorsement of Vice President Harris last week at an event in Ripon, Wisconsin, the birthplace of the Republican Party.
Vice President Harris has been endorsed by hundreds of prominent Republican leaders, as well as two dozen Wisconsin Republicans who signed onto an open letter. Republicans for Harris is a grassroots organizing coalition building on the campaign’s work to reach and mobilize the millions of Republican voters who reject the chaos and division of Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.
In response to a question on how to convince fellow conservatives that they should vote for Vice President Harris, conservative commentator Charlie Sykes said, “If you value the Constitution, if you really want to see a solution to the immigration problem, if you really want to see American prosperity, the ideas that Donald Trump is presenting will not accomplish any of that. Now you have a president who… is talking about massive new taxes on the middle class in this country through tariffs. Tariffs are taxes on American consumers.”
“I want to see the immigration problem solved. We were very close to having a solution to immigration. In fact, Some of the most conservative members of the United States Senate, including Senator Inhofe of Oklahoma, had signed on to a compromise bill. That was a conservative solution,” said Charlie Sykes. “Donald Trump [threatened to veto] it because ultimately Donald Trump is not about solving problems, he is about inflaming them and exploiting them.”
“Throughout the time I spent serving the people of Wisconsin, I’ve worked tirelessly to uphold the conservative values and principles that I believed would best serve our community,” said former Wisconsin Republican Senate Majority Leader Dale Schultz. “But I now believe I’ve watched Donald Trump pull the Republican Party away from those principles… And now, his Project 2025 agenda continues down the path of extremism and would allow Trump to consolidate unchecked power in a second term.”
“But the reality is that a second Trump term would be far, far more dangerous,” said former Wisconsin Court of Appeals Judge Dave Deininger. “Because if Trump regains power, he won’t have the guardrails that restrained him on January 6th. He can never be trusted to be our commander-in-chief or sit behind the seal of the president ever again.”
Sykes’ endorsement also builds on the historic momentum behind the campaign’s Republicans for Harris-Walz outreach efforts across the country, with recent endorsements from more than 100 Republican former national security officials; 200 Reagan, Bush, Romney, and McCain alumni; a dozen former Reagan aides; several former Nikki Haley campaign staffers; a dozen White House lawyers who served under Republican presidents; former Vice President Dick Cheney; former Arizona Senator Jeff Flake; former Kansas Senator Nancy Kassebaum; former U.S. Attorney General and White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales; son of the late Senator John McCain, Jim McCain; retired 4-Star General Larry Ellis; former Trump administration officials Olivia Troye, Cassidy Hutchinson, Stephanie Grisham, and Anthony Scaramucci; former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger; former Republican Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan; and more.
