Milwaukee County GOP Chair Deleon sees generational divide in GOP over abortion, social media

Milwaukee County GOP Chair Hilario Deleon, 23, in a WisPolitics-WisconsinEye interview said he sees abortion and technology as the main issues where younger Republicans differ from the older generation.

Deleon pointed to TikTok as an example. Some policymakers on both ends of the political spectrum have raised security concerns about the app owned by Chinese company ByteDance.

“I have TikTok, I think others should download TikTok and use it. It’s a tool. President Trump has to realize that, and I know he previously wanted to ban it, but now he doesn’t because he recognizes the importance of having those social media platforms.”

Deleon also said abortion is an area where younger voters may have different views.  He said he believes the party’s position has moved to more closely match most of the country’s position. The latest GOP platform doesn’t include language explicitly supporting a national abortion ban.

“We’re still a pro-life party, we want to make sure that we’re pro-adoption, making sure that any way that we can help people through these difficult times, but a lot of younger people believe in the exceptions for life of the mother rape, or incest, and that’s what I believe in. Again, still a pro-life person,” Deleon said.
