Milwaukee Alderperson Brostoff found dead in West Allis Park
Milwaukee Alderperson Jonathan Brostoff was found dead Monday morning in a far south parking lot section near 124th Street and Lincoln Avenue at Greenfield Park in West Allis.Police responded before noon to the discovery. Sources close to WISN 12 News have confirmed that the death of Brostoff, 41, is being investigated as a suicide.”The investigation involves an adult male who appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” West Allis Deputy police Chief Robert Fletcher told WISN 12 News. The West Allis Police Department is handling the investigation.The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office said an autopsy will be performed Tuesday. Brostoff represented Milwaukee’s East Side, District 3 on the Milwaukee Common Council, having assumed office on Nov. 16, 2022. He was re-elected to the position in the general election on April 2, 2024, with his term set to run until 2028.Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson released a statement expressing his grief over Brostoff’s passing.”I am extremely saddened with the passing of both Alderman Jonathan Brostoff,” Johnson said. “Jonathan brought a unique energy to his work at City Hall. His passion and dedication were evident every day. No elected official brought more enthusiasm to their work than Jonathan. He was a husband, a father, a son, and, to me, a close friend. My thoughts and sympathy go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.”The Milwaukee Common Council released the following statement.”As colleagues, and as friends, we are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Alderman Jonathan Brostoff.”Jonathan was a loving father and husband, and greeted everyone he met with empathy and kindness. He was also a passionate advocate for the betterment of our community, and dedicated his professional life to the people he represented. It was an honor to have served in office with him, and he will be missed.”Out of respect for his family, we would ask that they be provided the privacy and time to grieve that they most certainly deserve.” Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley also issued a statement saying in part,” Today, Milwaukee County lost a beloved leader, partner, and dear friend. I am devastated by the passing of Alderman Jonathan Brostoff. He was a hard worker, a fierce advocate, a loving husband and father, and a positive influence on everyone who knew him.”
