Mi Centro: A message to the immigrant Dane County community following the election
Madison, WI – November 6, 2024 – To our dear community. As we process the results of the election, we acknowledge each of us is stressed. Leading organizations in this community are here for you and are organizing in support and protection of immigrant families.
It is important to note that nothing will happen nor change legally until the new President takes office in early January.
More communication will be coming. Please follow Centro on social media for up-to-date information, https://www.facebook.com/centro.hispano.5
If you have any questions on what to do, or with regards to your rights as an immigrant please visit the Dane County Immigration Affairs Office website at: https://www.danecountyhumanservices.org/Children-Youth-and-Family/Immigration-Affairs
The Madison Police Department remains committed to providing high quality police services that are accessible to all members of our community. The MPD will continue to provide access to anyone seeking our services.
Per MPD standard operating procedure (link to this SOP can be found here), immigration status is only relevant when an officer believes that a person has committed serious crimes related to public safety. This approach is not new and has remained consistent for years. Crime victims or other people wishing to report an incident or have a crime investigated should always feel comfortable calling the MPD.
Remember we are worthy and together we are strong.
