Harris campaign: Community leaders in Appleton and Madison highlight Vice President Harris’ fight to lower costs for working families
Today, in Appleton and Madison, local leaders and community members held press conferences to highlight Vice President Harris’ efforts to lower costs for Wisconsinites, including by taking on Big Pharma and lowering prescription drug prices for everyday Wisconsinites.
The press conferences come after today’s announcement that, for the first time in history, Medicare has negotiated with drug companies to cut prices on 10 of the costliest, most widely-used medications thanks to the Biden-Harris administration’s Inflation Reduction Act. These new, lower prices cut the price of some of the most expensive and most commonly used drugs by around 40% to 80%. Vice President Harris and Governor Walz will build on this historic progress and continue lowering the cost of health care for Wisconsin families.
In stark contrast, Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would raise costs on working families, gut investments in the middle class, and repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, including ending the drug price negotiation provision, which would raise drug costs for Wisconsin seniors on Medicare.
“It is clear that the cost of health care and prescription drugs are too high for too many Wisconsinites. That’s why lowering these costs has been one of my top priorities in the State Assembly,” said State Representative Lee Snodgrass. “No one should have to choose between paying for your rent, your food, and your medicine – Vice President Harris knows this and is committed to fighting for us.”
“In this election, the choice could not be clearer. Vice President Harris and Governor Walz have a plan to stand up to Big Pharma and lower costs for everyday Wisconsinites. Donald Trump and JD Vance only care about themselves and their billionaire corporate donors. They would raise costs for families if they are elected,” said State Assembly candidate Emily Tseffos. “But Vice President Harris and Governor Walz understand that patients must come before Big Pharma profits.”
“Vice President Harris took on the big pharmaceutical companies and helped pass historic legislation that slashed my prescription drug costs,” said Appleton resident Sarah Conklin. “The cap on out-of-pocket drug costs is a lifesaver for me and over 1.3 million Wisconsin seniors and others on Medicare who benefit from this historic legislation and its numerous provisions to lower prescription drug costs. And Vice President Harris is not stopping there. Today, she and President Biden are announcing progress on another piece of their plan to lower prescription drug costs for working families.”
“Vice President Harris will continue to build and strengthen our middle class because she knows that when our middle class is strong, America is strong. Raised by a working mom in a middle-class neighborhood, Vice President Harris believes in a future where every person has the opportunity not just to get by, but to get ahead,” said Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez. “Donald Trump has made it clear that he doesn’t care about us. His first priority will always be himself and his billionaire friends.”
“Today, Vice President Harris is helping build on the historic work this administration has done to lower health care costs for families… The Biden-Harris administration took on Big Pharma to finally allow Medicare to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices. Now, many hard-working Wisconsin families no longer have to make the choice between putting food on the table for their families or getting the medications that they need to survive,” said State Representative Lisa Subeck. “Donald Trump has a very different vision for the future of this country. Donald Trump and his MAGA allies would pursue policies that benefit their billionaire friends and big corporations while leaving working families far behind.”
“Donald Trump has always chosen himself and his billionaire donors over hard working families. He and his MAGA allies would raise costs for working families by cutting Social Security and Medicare, repealing the Affordable Care Act and reversing landmark legislation that caps the price of insulin at $35 and lowers prescription drug costs,” said Madison resident Leia Esser. “This November, Wisconsinites will choose between Donald Trump, who sees the world from his country club in Mar-a-Lago, and Vice President Kamala Harris, who will always fight for working families. The choice could not be more clear.”
