Fall Games Returns to Wisconsin Dells

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – More than 800 bocce, flag football, and softball athletes from across the state returned to the Woodside Dells Sports Complex Friday through Sunday, September 6-8, for the second annual Special Olympics Wisconsin Fall Games. Champions were crowned, memories were made, and great sportsmanship was on full display.

An Opening Ceremony at Chula Vista Resort featuring Wisconsin Senator Joan Ballweg (R-Green Lake), SOWI’s Inclusive Health team, and emceed by SOWI athlete Mat Amschler welcomed all athletes, coaches, family, and fans on Friday.

Bocce, Flag Football, and Softball competition began Saturday morning, with the Flag Football and Softball medal rounds culminating Sunday.

Complementing Fall Games, SOWI held series of very popular health-focused activities, including two Healthy Athletes events on Saturday. Special Smiles® (oral health screenings and education) and Strong Minds® (coping and emotional wellness training) as well as the HEAR Wisconsin Mobile Audiology Clinic will be stationed just outside the entrance for free hearing screenings. Sunday, Performance Station (nutrition, hydration, and physical activity education) capped off the Fall Games health activities. In total, more than 300 screenings were held across all disciplines on the weekend.

Statewide partners the Knights of Columbus provided a Pancake Breakfast Sunday morning. In addition to the Knights of Columbus, Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wisconsin; Jersey Mike’s; Delta Dental of Wisconsin Foundation; Dunkin’; Kriete Truck Centers; Michel’s Foundation; Kohl’s Cares; Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association; WisPact Foundation; and OUR TEAM Partners Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Admirals, Milwaukee Brewers, and Milwaukee Bucks helped make the event come to life.

Hundreds of volunteers also donated their time and energy to make the event happen. A heartfelt thank you to all those who made the event go off without a hitch!
