DSCC ad brands Hovde an ‘arrogant, phony fraud’

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Commitee today announced its first independent expenditure targeting GOP candidate Eric Hovde: a TV ad calling him an “arrogant, phony fraud.”

The DSCC said it’s part of a previously announced $79 million buy across multiple states, including $10 million to boost U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison. According to AdImpact, the group has $8.9 million reserved on the air through November, including more than $1 million this week.

The narrator opens the spot calling Hovde a multimillionaire and California banker who was named one of Orange County’s more influential residents. The narrator adds Hovde “bragged about being in the 1%” but accused Wisconsin farmers of not working hard.

“Now, this California banker wants to buy a Senate seat in Wisconsin,” the narrator says. “Eric Hovde, what an arrogant, phony fraud.”
