‘Discover Wisconsin’ features UWEC, community – WisPolitics

The power of the partnership between the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the city of Eau Claire will be featured this week on “Discover Wisconsin,” the nation’s longest-running travel and tourism series.

An exclusive early debut of “The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire – Building a Legacy” will stream at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, available through discoverwisconsin.com, Roku, Apple TV, SmartTV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire and YouTube. Viewers can download the Discover Wisconsin+ app in the iOS App Store or Google Play store to stream it on a mobile device.

The episode will air statewide at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, on Bally Sports Wisconsin, and at varying times across local affiliates of the Discover Wisconsin Regional Television Network.

“We had an opportunity to promote the relationship between UW-Eau Claire and the city of Eau Claire,” says Kimera Way, CEO of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. “The ‘Discover Wisconsin’ platform was an excellent venue for telling this tremendous story. I’m pleased we can share this so widely.”

The episode details the intertwined relationship between the university and city that started more than a century ago when city officials donated land for what would one day become known as Wisconsin’s Most Beautiful Campus.

“Host Andrea Boehlke sets out to see this incredible relationship at work firsthand, symbolized through the confluence of the Eau Claire and Chippewa Rivers,” according to “Discover Wisconsin.” “Along the way, Andrea uncovers the historically rich past, experiences the innovative present and looks ahead to the bright future.”

Among the people interviewed are Chancellor James Schmidt; Blugold alumni John and Carolyn Sonnentag, who donated $70 million toward The Sonnentag Complex; Dr. Tim Nelson, director of innovation for Mayo Clinic Health System Northwest Wisconsin and a UW-Eau Claire alumnus;  and Blue Ox Running owners and Blugold alumni Adam and Alicia Condit.

Eau Claire sites featured in the episode include The Sonnentag, Pablo Center at the Confluence and Phoenix Park.
