Democracy Defense Project-Wisconsin: Bipartisan board on ongoing Wausau drop box controversy

WISCONSIN – Access to drop boxes in Wisconsin continues to make national headlines with just 20 more days until Election Day.  Members of the Leadership Board of Democracy Defense Project – Wisconsin, including former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, former Attorney General JB Van Hollen, former U.S. Rep. Scott Klug, and former Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate, released the below joint statement pushing back on the misleading claims surrounding Wisconsin drop boxes and calling for uniformity across the state to rebuild trust in the process.

“Every eligible voter in this state deserves to have their voice heard. While we as a board may not agree on drop boxes individually, we all understand that this is the law of the land and the inconsistencies across different jurisdictions create unnecessary confusion with less than 3 weeks until November 5th. Rather than questioning the efficacy of our voting methods, its past time for leaders across the state to commit themselves to reassuring the public that the protections we have in place – including paper ballot backups, signature verification, voter identification and more – will keep our elections secure throughout the state in 2024.”
