Biden standing down ‘bittersweet’ for Hartman, now a ‘joyful warrior’ for Harris
CHICAGO – Marsie Hartman, 71, of Door County, is a first-time delegate to the Democratic National Convention. It’s been quite a ride so far.
“I felt the punch in the gut when President Biden stood down.”
“But within an hour or two, he threw his support to Vice President Harris, and suddenly there was this belief.”
Then attending the West Allis rally to see Harris days after: “The emotion, the overwhelming feelings of hopefulness, and now I’m so proud to be a joyful warrior.’’
As she said in a WisPolitics-WisconsinEye convention interview Monday before Biden’s DNC speech at the United Center, “we all felt the whirlwind.”
Hartman said she was approaching Biden’s Monday night speech as “a celebration of him.”
“I’m approaching it with total pride and gratitude to him for his many, many decades of amazing service to our country. While it’s bittersweet in that I know it’s a disappointment to him, I also believe that he believes in our country, and he did what is going to help our country most.”
