Milwaukee leaders highlight Vice President Harris’ new way forward for Latino Wisconsinites, kick off Hispanic Heritage Month – WisPolitics

Yesterday, in Milwaukee, Milwaukee Common Council President José Pérez, State Representative Sylvia Ortiz-Velez, and Milwaukee County Supervisor Caroline Gómez-Tom came together in partnership with the Milwaukee County Dems to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and to highlight Vice President Harris’ accomplishments for the Latino community at the Southside Democratic coordinated campaign office. The event came one day after the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.  

Vice President Harris and Democrats are working to earn the votes of the Latino community. For the first time in 20 years, our Democratic coordinated campaign HQ is based in Milwaukee, underscoring the importance of reaching key constituencies in Milwaukee, including Latino voters.

Donald Trump continues to use hateful rhetoric about immigrants and has pledged to take away programs that benefit the Latino community, including the Affordable Care Act, and has plans to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would raise taxes on the middle class and drive up costs for working families while giving tax breaks to billionaires. Meanwhile, Vice President Harris has rolled out plans to cut taxes for the middle class, take on corporate price gouging, reduce grocery prices, and cut prescription drug prices. 

“While Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, and Democrats are actually trying to earn our votes… we remember Trump’s presidency and the countless times he tried to end the DACA program and his cruel family separation policy. Kamala Harris will take our community forward, and I look forward to voting for her in November,” said County Supervisor Caroline Gómez-Tom.

“Donald Trump has done nothing except demonize our community,” said Council President José Pérez. “So much is on the line in this election, which is why we need to vote for Kamala Harris, who is the daughter of immigrants, and her plan to take us forward – instead of Trump’s plan to take us backwards” 

“Donald Trump and his MAGA allies failed us for four years, and now Trump’s Project 2025 agenda threatens to continue his failed record,” said State Representative Sylvia Ortiz-Velez. “Project 2025 is out of touch and doesn’t meet the needs of hardworking Latinos across our country or here in Milwaukee.”
