Wisconsin Non-Partisan Unity Council: Statement on assassination attempt
The Wisconsin Non-Partisan Unity Council (led by Republican State Senator Rob Cowles, Republican former State Senator Dale Schultz, Democratic former State Senator Tim Cullen; and Democratic Representative Sue S. Conley) strongly condemn the attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump, the 2024 presumptive Republican nominee.
Violence has no place in the American political process. Period. We condemn violence against any candidate, political leaders or their supporters, as do the overwhelming majority of America. We are glad that former President Trump is safe. Our hearts are also with the family of the individual who lost his life and with those who were severely injured.
In the coming hours and weeks, it is important for us to come together and build Unity, while respecting our differences. “Respect for differences of opinion make America exceptional, which attracted me to this country from India nearly 40 years ago,” said Masood Akhtar, President/Founder, We Are Many – United Against Hate (WAM-UAH). The Non-Partisan Unity Council is WAM-UAH’s recent initiative which focuses on developing and implementing strategies to bring unity in classrooms and communities.
