News3000 reality check shows Joan Ballweg’s allies caught red-handed lying about Democrat Sarah Keyeski – WisPolitics
MADISON, Wis. — Last week, Channel 3000 ran a comprehensive fact check on the TV attack ad Joan Ballweg’s allies were running in the 14th Senate District accusing Democrat Sarah Keyeski of voting to increase her own pay as a member of the Lodi School Board. The verdict? False. Sarah Keyeski is a political newcomer who never served on the Lodi School District Board of Education.
“It’s sad that Joan Ballweg and her allies have resorted to peddling obvious lies about Sarah Keyeski rather than focusing on the challenges facing Wisconsinites in the 14th District,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Deputy Communications Director Haley McCoy. “We know it’s difficult to defend Joan Ballweg’s record of trying to ban abortion and sell out working families, but spreading lies is unacceptable. There’s still time for Joan Ballweg to denounce the false attack ads her allies are running and start talking about the issues—but we’re not holding our breath.”
Here are the facts about the false attack ad paid for by Joan Ballweg’s allies:
- The attack ad run by Wisconsin Principles accuses Sarah Keyeski of voting for a 16% pay raise for herself on the Lodi School Board.
- Will Kenneally: “This is false. Sarah Keyeski was never on the Lodi School Board.”
- The Lodi School Board Administrator told Channel 3000 “in the 17 years that he has worked in the district, he can confirm that Sarah Keyeski was not on the School Board.”
- Sarah Keyeski offered a motion to raise school board members’ pay, but “Keyeski did not vote for it because she is not on the board.”
- The ad was pulled from local TV providers but the claims have persisted in local mailers.
- A flier circulating in Lodi makes the same false claim that Sarah Keyeski voted to raise her own pay.
- The flier cites meeting minutes from the Lodi School Board meeting that show once again Sarah Keyeski was not on the school board.
