Special Olympics Wisconsin’s “SO Gives Athletes a Smile” Day continues to make a powerful impact on the health and confidence of athletes across the state. This annual initiative connects athletes with comprehensive dental care through compassionate providers who believe everyone deserves a healthy smile.
In 2025, two incredible clinics once again opened their doors for treatment days in Fond du Lac and Madison, serving athletes who had been identified with urgent dental needs through Special Olympics Wisconsin’s Special Smiles health screenings.

Together, these two events provided $49,833 in dental treatment—an increase of more than $7,600 from 2024’s two-day total of $42,218. Both Boudry Dental and Warren Family Dental make an incredible impact on the community, ensuring access to essential dental care form Specia Olympics athletes.
“These events truly change lives,” said Melissa Schoenbrodt, Director of Health Programs at Special Olympics Wisconsin. “Athletes leave not only with healthier smiles but also with greater confidence and comfort. We couldn’t do this without our incredible partners—Delta Dental of Wisconsin Foundation, Boudry Dental, Warren Family Dental, and Marquette School of Dentistry—whose dedication and generosity make this program possible.”
For families, the impact is deeply personal. Claudia Derringer, mother of athlete Tyler, shared her gratitude:
“We are so thankful for this program and the amazing care Tyler received. He was flagged as urgent during the Special Smiles screening at State Games, and the SO Gives Athletes a Smile Day made it possible for him to get the treatment he needed. Knowing he’s pain-free and healthy gives our whole family peace of mind.”
Through compassionate partnerships and a shared commitment to inclusion, SO Gives Athletes a Smile Day continues to ensure that every athlete has a reason—and the ability—to smile proudly.
