Sen. LaTonya Johnson endorses Jill Underly for re-election as State Superintendent – WisPolitics
MILWAUKEE, WI – Senator LaTonya Johnson proudly endorsed State Superintendent Jill Underly today in her re-election campaign for the 2025 Spring General Election.
“Jill Underly has shown incredible dedication to ensuring every child in Wisconsin gets the quality education they deserve. I fully support her re-election as State Superintendent to continue the important work ahead,” said Senator Johnson.
Underly, elected State Superintendent in 2021, has focused on ensuring all students receive the education they deserve. She served as a principal, teacher, and district superintendent before becoming the head of the Department of Public Instruction, where she has been committed to equity, inclusion, and supporting underfunded schools.
Throughout her first term, Underly prioritized literacy reform, mental health support, and improved nutrition in schools. She also emphasized the importance of fostering supportive, inclusive environments for students and teachers alike. “Every child belongs in our schools and deserves the resources they need to succeed,” said Underly.
In response to the endorsement, Dr. Underly expressed her gratitude for Senator Johnson’s support. “I am honored to have Senator Johnson’s endorsement. She is a true champion for our communities, and I look forward to continuing our work together to ensure every child in Wisconsin has the opportunity to thrive.”
Underly has made it clear that her campaign will be “people-powered” and focused on meeting the needs of every child, every day. She is committed to continuing the progress made in her first term and tackling new challenges facing Wisconsin’s students and educators.
Jill Underly lives in rural Hollandale with her husband and two children, as well as too many animals to count.
