Agard campaign: Melissa Agard hosts Labor Roundtable
Madison – Today Senator Melissa Agard, a candidate for Dane County Executive, hosted a roundtable with labor leaders across Dane County. Councils and leadership from Dane County Labor organizations have overwhelmingly endorsed Agard’s candidacy for County Executive (endorsements listed below). Senator Agard and other champions for labor issues released the following statements:
“I know that we cannot have a Dane County that thrives without hard working women and men that build our roads and new developments, teach our children, support vital county services, and maintain our public structures,” Senator Agard stated. “My track record shows that I will always have the backs of union families. The promise of a union is the promise of basic rights – a high quality of life, affordable health care, and the ability to retire with dignity. As your next Dane County Executive, I will protect these union rights, and fight like hell to ensure everyone in Dane County has the ability to achieve their dreams.”
Senator Agard first came into politics during the fight over workers’ rights that has shaped organized labor in Wisconsin ever since. She spent countless hours at the Capitol in 2011 with her children supporting their teachers, state employees, parkworkers, firefighters and local government workers. This experience shaped how Agard understands organized labor and the value of representation in the workplace.
“I was excited to join Senator Agard at the roundtable today focusing on labor-related issues in Dane County. At a time when union rights are at the forefront of national politics – we need a champion in Dane County who will work with labor leaders, hear the voices of their members, and go to bat for them,” stated Michael Killian, manager at IBEW Local 159.
“Melissa will always put working families and retirees first. I know she understands the issues and will be there in our corner. Whether addressing the need for more fair paying careers with benefits, or the urgent need for access to affordable child care, there is a lot at stake and her leadership will help us prevail in these hard times,” concluded Anthony Anastasi from the Iron Workers Local 383.
