Some RNC delegations staying in Madison during convention
Six delegations to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee are staying about 80 miles away in Madison, according to a source familiar with their arrangements.
These include Texas, which is staying at the AC Hotel Madison Downtown, and Michigan, which is staying at the DoubleTree by Hilton Madison East. Others including Washington D.C., New Mexico, New Jersey and West Virginia are also in Madison, though the source declined to provide details on which hotels they’re using.
Speaking to reporters earlier this week, Michigan GOP Party Chair Pete Hoekstra said “we won’t go into why we’re in Madison” in response to a reporter’s question.
“The decision to go to Madison was made by the RNC towards the end of ‘23 or very early in ‘24, and at that point in time they decided that Madison was a good place for the Michigan Republicans to gather,” he asked.
When asked if the decision is a punishment for infighting within the Michigan GOP, he said “no idea.”
“We’re well past that,” he said. “We’re focused on winning, and we’re much more unified than we have been.”
