$12.5M going to renovate two I-43 rest stops between Green Bay, Manitowoc | Wisconsin

(The Center Square) – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is directing $12.5 million in federal funds to improve a pair of rest stops on Interstate 43 between Green Bay and Manitowoc.

The project is at and near the Maribel Rest Area 51 and Denmark Rest Area 52 and will include 72 commercial truck parking spaces while making both facilities fully ADA compliant, including the addition of universal changing stations.

The project will address pavement deterioration, ramp shoulders and beam guards while increasing high mast lighting in the parking lot along with personal security for truck drivers.

The project includes renovating restroom facilities along with adding overweight staging areas for oversized truck loads.

“These facility upgrades will not only provide a safer, more welcoming environment for tourists, truckers, and commuters, they will meet the modern demands of the traveling public, which is crucial for safety and economic growth,” said WisDOT Secretary Kristina Boardman.

The funding was part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which funded the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Infrastructure for Rebuilding America program.

“After decades of heavy use, the outdated and deteriorating infrastructure isn’t up to par,” Sen. Tammy Baldwin said in a statement. “That’s why I fought to secure this investment, reconstructing an important resource for truckers, helping ensure that goods get to market on time, and keeping Wisconsin drivers safe on our roads.”
