Pinterest Adds New Collage Remix and Sharing Options
Pinterest is building on its in-app collage tools, with two new interactive collage options: “Collage Remixing” and “Collage Sharing”.
Pinterest added its collage option last September, which was developed based on the popularity of its separate “Shuffles” collage app. Collage creation on Pinterest enables users to digitally cut objects out of any Pin, then combine them with other cutouts to create interactive images.
As you can see in this example, once items are entered into a collage, they remain individually identifiable as products, providing another creative option that also helps to promote items in the app.
And now, users will have more ways to build upon these multi-object creations.
First off, on remixing. As it sounds, Collage Remixes will enable users to collaborate and build upon or edit existing collages in the app, as a means to expand on the original layout.
As you can see in this example, users will be able to re-do collages to create their own take on the same, with a tag in the lower left corner pointing to the original collage creator.
That could be an easy way to expand collage sharing, by enabling users to essentially re-purpose god looking creations that others have put together, and share them with their connections.
Which will also be facilitated by improved collage sharing, with Pinners now able to download their collages into videos, that they can then share on other platforms.
Of course, the Pin links won’t be active in these clips, but they will feature Pinterest watermarks to guide viewers to the original, while those posting to IG Stories will also be able to post custom stickers linking back to the Pinterest post.
These are good updates to help encourage more engagement with the format, which has proven popular in the app, particularly among Gen Z users.
Indeed, Pinterest’s collages have been so popular that it’s also developing a collages ad option, while Instagram has even taken notice, experimenting with its own collage format.
Which, in social media development terms, is the ultimate compliment.
It makes sense then for Pinterest to continue iterating on the format, and testing out new ways to help improve engagement.
